Whut? Thee Album is the debut studio album by American rapper Redman; it was released on September 22, 1992 by Def Jam Recordings and Chaos Recordings, a dimension of Columbia Records. While taking place at Ian London Studios, North Shore Soundworks and Power Play Studios, recording sessions began in 1991 and continued into 1992.
His aggressive delivery is more than hardcore enough for the streets, but Whut? is first and foremost a party record. Redman's subject matter centers around his love of funk and his equal love of pot, with some sex and violence thrown in for good measure. He's able to carry it all off with a singular sense of style, thanks to a wild sense of humor that results in some outlandish boasts, surreal threats, and hilarious left-field jokes.

Album · 1992 · 15 Songs. Redman’s debut album is perhaps best defined by the way he balances punchlines with darkness. Blow Your Mind is about as upbeat as the album gets, bouncing along on samples from James Brown and Parliament, among others. Over a dark instrumental, Hardcore sees Redman issuing threats that are made almost goofy by their extreme outlandishness, but Rated ‘R’ plays as a warning, over a funk guitar sample and gleeful scratches, about Redman’s take-no-prisoners attitude. He mellowed out eventually, but his brilliant, harsh delivery shines here. Whut? Thee Album Redman.

The album starts with a skit where Redman is apparently in an insane asylum because he strangled someone at a rap concert, a doctor tells him he needs to "bring out some of that unnecessary anger out your system". That rage is on full display for the track "Time 4 Sum Aksion", over a thumping drum beat and Cypress Hill sample, Redman comes out swinging and gives an incredibly energetic performance, so much so that after the final chorus he reappears ready for more until someone says "Yo chill it's over man. You ain't gotta say no more, it's over. Hawks December 21st 2010. I never noticed So Ruff was the song that the dean dances to in How High. Makes sense obviously.
