Complete your Jacqueline Du Pré collection.

Audio CD, Box set, 22 Oct 2007. This box contains both old favourites and complete surprises, all played by Jacqueline du Pre Lovely music, lovely recording.

Before she landed a contract with EMI, cellist Jacqueline du Pré made a few recordings for the BBC. Or, more properly put, she made a few broadcasts for the BBC which, after she landed her EMI contract, became recordings. The du Pré of the EMI recordings was a powerful and expressive player who gave everything she had to the music she performed. The du Pré of the BBC recordings was a no less powerful and perhaps even more expressive player who gave everything she had and then some to the music she performed

Fischer-Dieskau, Dietrich. The other was a stupendous, wrist-crushing fifty-one CD box devoted to many great (but obviously not complete) EMI recordings made by Yehudi Menuhin. And here is the other one, a twenty-six CD and 2 DVD set devoted to the complete EMI recordings of Rostropovich as a cellist - no conductorial waters here. What with the riches of the Oistrakh box set from this source and things are looking good for the collection collector.

The complete emi recordings. Artistic Quality: 8. Sound Quality: 7. If multiple sclerosis had not tragically curtailed Jacqueline du Pré’s career and shortened her life, would the music industry at large still treat her as a sacrosanct cult figure with a halo around her cello? Probably not. However, this boxed set encompassing every du Pré recording previously released by EMI presents a golden opportunity not only to acquire her complete output all at once, but also to put her achievements in perspective.
