Mystery Twins newest 7 single TV Talk not only brings us a fuzz-bass floor pounding song about our relationship with Television, it utilizes the physical packaging to animate the front cover, adding another layer to the experience. Designed by Mystery Twins Singer/Guitarist Doug Lehmann along with Bryce McCloud of Isle of Printing, the 7 packaging creates the illusion of animated movement as you pull the record out of the jacket. The inner sleeve consists of a two frame animation combined into one image, the outer sleeve features laser-cut scan lines inside the TV graphic. The B-side is a cover of Wreckless Eric’s "Whole Wide World". Mystery Twins harmony vocal style shines bright on this track, pairing their sensibilities perfectly with this ragged pop classic. In 1980, an LP with the same track listing was added as a bonus to the album Big Smash!. Side 1. "Whole Wide World". Let's Go To The Pictures".
The whole sequence is noticeably not in HD and it stands out. It is quite distracting and a shame because it is such a crucial and visual scene. I can only guess the producers were unable to locate the original negative for those scenes. The sound is remixed and remastered in DTS-MA and is amazingly full ranged and detailed considering it was originally created for a 24 year old TV show. The music in particular sounds fantastic.
