The Fisk Jubilee Singers are an African-American a cappella ensemble, consisting of students at Fisk University. The first group was organized in 1871 to tour and raise funds for college. Their early repertoire consisted mostly of traditional spirituals, but included some songs by Stephen Foster. The original group toured along the Underground Railroad path in the United States, as well as performing in England and Europe. Later 19th-century groups also toured in Europe.

Fisk Jubilee Singers, group of African American singers established (1871) at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. It is one of the earliest and most-famous black vocal groups, known for the performance of slave spirituals. Originally known as the Fisk Free Colored School, Fisk University was established in 1865 to educate newly freed slaves.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers are vocal artists and students at Fisk University in Nashville, T. who sing and travel worldwide. The original Fisk Jubilee Singers introduced ‘slave songs’ to the world in 1871 and were instrumental in preserving this unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals.
