‘Aste’ features all previously unreleased tracks from God of minimalism Mika Vainio, long-rumoured and at long last available after weeks of delay. The tracks here were written in 1993, around the same time as the crucial Röntgen and Kvantti EP's (and also the year the world first heard from Basic Channel) - and the quality and depth of tracks here is hard to fathom - unmatched reduced Chicago and acid edits, stripped techno templates with seemingly endless bass drops and percussive progressions that may as well be the pre-set template for Minimalism, circa 2006. The album’s opener is ‘Spiraalit’ an explosive warehouse banger complete with dirty acid bassline and pumping 808 beats, then we’re fired into more atmospheric territory with the mysterious ‘Sukeltava’ - quite an unbeleivable track. The highlight of ‘Aste’ for me is ‘Maan Valossa’ a beatless transition based around a simple synth melody which loops in and out of time while a Finnish voice chatters in the background – it simply transports you into another world. Simple, crushing, genius proto-techno - an absolute, non-debatable must. Via Boomkat.

Actually, the voices is not a Finnish ones, it is a record of Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky and Yuriy Gagarin speeches about a space travel. But I agree - this track is one of the best from Mika Vainio

Fantastic stuff from Ø aka Mika Vainio. Unreleased material from the early 90s. This whole set is probably some of his most dancefloor material as you are likely to find. It’s interesting that this material is only seeing the light of day well over a decade later – unquestionably this set is a statement of Vainio's unique contribution to techno. This is as hypnotic and reduced in form as it gets. No padding here; this stuff is lean and built for high volumes. For anyone looking for the raw materials that Richie Hawtin built his sound out of; or for fans of sleeparchive looking for the originator, look no further. Anyone even vaguely familiar with pan sonic or other Mika Vainio/Ilpo Vaisanen projects should definitely check this out.
