In July 1982, Youth Brigade recorded their debut album entitled Sound & Fury Mixed by Ira Malek. However, during the Someone Got Their Head Kicked In tour with Social Distortion (as chronicled in the documentary Another State of Mind) in the summer of 1982, which marked their first national tour, Youth Brigade realized that they were disappointed with the album and stopped the pressing at only 800 copies. After the end of the Someone Got Their Head Kicked In tour, the band returned home and decided to record a new album entitled Sound & Fury, keeping only four tracks from the original.

Another State of Mind" is a song by the American punk rock band Social Distortion. It is the second track on their 1983 debut album Mommy's Little Monster, and was released as a 7" single that year on their then-record label 13th Floor Records. The single was released again in 1989 on Triple X Records to coincide with the reissue of Mommy's Little Monster.

Although this album contains a lot of non-essential hardcore, it does get props for so thoroughly documenting the early-'80s . For some of the groups (Red C, Iron Cross), this compilation was the extent of their exposure. For others (Minor Threat, Government Issue, Youth Brigade), this compilation was just the starting point for exposure and recognition.
