The discography of Metallica includes 10 studio albums, four live albums, three extended plays, 39 singles, 10 video albums, 41 music videos, one soundtrack album, one collaboration album, and three box sets. They are a San Francisco-based metal band formed in 1981 by James Hetfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums). After several bassist and lead guitarist changes (including Dave Mustaine), the band settled on Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett, respectively.
Metallica albums run the gamut from the album that redefined thrash metal to that ill-advised collaboration – here we look back on their back catalogue from worst to best.

Metallica's fifth studio album, self-titled album (commonly known as The Black Album) was released on August 12, 1991 by Elektra Records. Metallica have sold Black Album more than 100 million records worldwide. With that album, they are the most successful band in metal history regarding album sales. Black album is the best-selling album in the United States since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991. It has sold 1. million copies. Metallica has never sold fewer than 1,000 copies in a week since its release.
Metallica (also known as The Black Album) is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica and was released on August 12, 1991 through Elektra Records to critical acclaim. Metallica produced five hit singles that are considered today among the band's best-known songs: "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Wherever I May Roam", and "Sad But True", also Don't Tread on Me was released as a promo single. The band promoted the album with a series of tours.
I hate Metallica's Black Album, and frankly I can't for the life of me understand why so many other Metallica fans are ready to fellate the supposed genius of the sixty-two minute beast of repetition, limp-wristedness, and flat ideas. This album was to be the gateway to some of the worst music ever to fall under the title 'metal', or to ever be referred to by the band as 'experimental', 'mature', and 'progressive'. Where is the power that Metallica had in their previous albums? Legendary album. the album that sets the tone for the worst period in Metallica history. But this is mainly because they lost Cliff Burton(. P) and because they've "grown".
My favourite Metallica album, because it features Metallica in a time of despair; Cliff has died, their brutality and anger in the form of music presented as this album. James' riffage and songwriting is absolutely brutal and the complexity of their songs is unlike never before
