Macmillan is one of Canada's most esteemed composers and musical figures and Brickenden is his partner, business manager, organizer, librettist and wife. Behind the scenes, she plays an integral part in Macmillan's creative process. His deep love for the Celtic music of Nova Scotia led him to compose Celtic-classical crossover music for his pioneering groups, the Scott Macmillan Sextet and The Octet. Composed in 1988, premiered in 1991, The Celtic Mass for the Sea has become a contemporary choral classic. Combining a chamber string orchestra and choir with a Celtic ensemble of harp, pipes, mandolin, fiddle and guitars, the Mass is an exuberant celebration of the teeming life in the waters coverin. obert Bateman: The Wild World of Robert Bateman.
