Mew are a Danish alternative rock band, consisting of Jonas Bjerre (lead vocals), Johan Wohlert (bass) and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen (drums). Johan Wohlert left the band in 2006 before the birth of his first child, but made a return in 2013 while the band were in the studio, before making his first live appearances since his departure in 2014. Guitarist Bo Madsen left the band in June 2015.

Mew have a tradition of, as Bjerre puts it, hiding away in a cave for three or four years between albums. They arrived home with demos that had been written on the road and the spark was lit. They wanted to break the cycle and make an album quickly. We just felt like, if we do it the normal way, it’s gonna be another three or four years before we get to do it again’, says Bjerre.

- (pronounced Plus Minus) is the sixth studio album by Danish alternative rock band Mew. It was released on 24 April 2015. The recording process for + - started in May 2013 in Copenhagen. Mew enlisted the help of American producer Michael Beinhorn, with whom they worked on their fourth studio album, And the Glass Handed Kites (2005). They also invited guitarist Russell Lissack of the British rock band Bloc Party, whom they first met years earlier during a joint US concert tour, to take part in the writing process and play on the album
