Symphony N. In A Minor. Composed By – Mahler. Conductor – Klaus Tennstedt. Liner Notes – Michael Kennedy (4). Orchestra – London Philharmonic Orchestra. Producer – John Willan.

Mahler: Symphony N. "Tragic". Go to artist profile. Play all. Simon Rattle: Philharmonia Orchestra. Mariss Jansons: Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. José Carreras; Alain Lombard: Orchestre Philharmonique De Strasbourg, Choeurs De L'Opéra Du Rhin. Yehudi Menuhin; Alberto Lysy: Camerata Lysy Gstaad. Enrique Bátiz: Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra.

However, Tennstedt and the London Philharmonic Orchestra are in the best possible form here, and their vigorous attacks, energetic pacing, volatile dynamics, and explosive climaxes make this performance not merely impressive, but compelling, terrifying, soul-stirring, and ultimately, cathartic.

COMPOSER: Gustav Mahler. FEATURED ARTIST: Klaus Tennstedt London Philharmonic Orchestra. More from this artist.

Mahler: Symphony No. 6 – London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tennstedt. Mahler once remarked to Sibelius: ‘a symphony must be like the world, it must embrace everything’. His Sixth Symphony is a salient and personal statement, containing musical depictions of his wife and children. It reaches a tragic conclusion in the Finale, which represents ‘the hero, on whom fall three blows of fate, the last of which fells him as a tree is felled’

Klaus Tennstedt conductor London Philharmonic Orchestra David Nolan leader. No one can love the countryside as much as I do,' Beethoven once said, 'for surely woods, trees and rocks produce the echo which man desires to hear. But nature was not just a balm for the senses; for Beethoven it was evidence of the Creator's hand  . CD: Mahler – Symphony No. 2. LPO conducted by Klaus Tennstedt.

Klaus Tennstedt was the London Philharmonic's principal conductor from 1983 until illness brought a premature end to his tenure four years later, when he became the orchestra's conductor laureate. For some, his years in London are now remembered fondly as a bit of a golden age - memories defined, I suspect, by his performances of just a handful of composers. Tennstedt's repertoire was always severely limited, with Beethoven, Wagner, Bruckner and Mahler as its cornerstones
