Stridemonster! is the piano playing twosome of Dick Hyman and Dick Wellstood. They revere the works of James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Willie "The Lion" Smith and all the other early stridemonsters, and they create their music in that spirit of wanton heed and cunning abandon. This is the CD reissue of the original Unisson LP, and it includes an additional tune ("Froggie Moore" issued here for the first time) from the original 1986 studio session as well as 3 performances from Stridemonster's June 1987 appearance at Toronto's Harbourfront.

Richard Hyman (born March 8, 1927) is an American jazz pianist and composer. Over a 60-year career, he has functioned as a pianist, organist, arranger, music director, electronic musician, and, increasingly, as a composer. He was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters fellow in 2017. Hyman was born in New York City, to Joseph C. Hyman and Lee Roven.
