The Brighter Shore (CD, Album). The Brighter Shore (LP, Album).
Sleepyhead" is the debut single from American electronic band Passion Pit, featured on their first EP, Chunk of Change. The single was released in 2008. The song also contains samples of "Óró Mo Bháidín" by Mary O'Hara and "San Francisco Scene" by Jack Kerouac.
Easy to miss, Sealed Fate has called attention to itself by putting out The Brighter Shore. This is the new album from criminally overlooked pop band Sleepyhead. Also, you could call this intelligent indie rock. Owning a Sleepyhead record is having a chart-worthy record that is never "played to death.

Sleepyhead was formed in a basement room at NYU's Brittany Dorm in the fall of 1989 by drummer/vocalist Rachael McNally, bassist Mike Galinsky and guitarist/vocalist Chris O’Rourke. They released their first 7" single, the Kramer-produced "Play," in 1991 on Picture Book Artifact. Four full-length albums followed, on three different independent record labels. Punk Rock City USA was released by Slumberland Records in 1993, followed by Starduster (Homestead 1994), Communist Love Songs (Homestead 1996), and The Brighter Shore (Sealed Fate 1999)
Brighter Shore (Sealed Fate, 1999) displays influences from Yo La Tengo and Neil Young, which together weaken Sleepyhead's sound albeit bestowing an oneiric tone to the catchiest songs. The songs compete for the weirdest arrangement. Haflway between the Paisley Underground and garage-rock, the subtle crescendo of Late Night Thinking leverages O'Rourke's acid keyboards, dreamy whispers and McNally's convoluted, jazzy rhythm. Song For The Pied Piper achieves a sublime fusion of Duan Eddy's twang, surf music, acid-rock and caribbean music, all wrapped in surreal vocal harmonies and middle-eastern chords. The noisier fabric of Poor Baby partially abandons the baroque posture of the album for a down-to-earth "Dylan-ian" ballad. The sprightly ska pace of The Box For Blue releases a Rod Stewart-esque soul ballad. The roots of the band are hard to discern.
