This isn't to say Future Sequence is a bad album; at times it's as engrossing as their past material. But the feeling that's left by when minute 72 has run up is that of sonic overload. This was the first Between The Buried And Me album I heard. And before I knew who they were. I was expecting them to be a generic metalcoreThis was the first Between The Buried And Me album I heard. I was expecting them to be a generic metalcore band or something like that

Between the Buried and Me 's 2007 album, Colors, marked a departure for the band from the expansive technical death metal of its earlier career into more progressive rock-influenced territory. Released in 2009, The Great Misdirect refined BTBAM 's new approach, and their split from Victory Records that year afforded them the freedom to further push the limits of progressive death metal. Rogers ' guttural growls sound more menacing than ever, and what the album lacks in originality it makes up for with feverishly inventive riffs and melodies, making The Parallax II: Future Sequence the band's most inspired release since Alaska.

This album encompasses all these criteria in stunning and excellent fashion.

On that tour, they impressed with their technicality and precision. They lost their way with The Great Misdirect. The searing passion and emotion found in their earlier efforts was lost. This takes us to Future Sequence. In the 2010’s, it seems more people are clamoring for better, more powerful songwriting, if I’m correctly feeling the pulse of the music community today. That trait was featured on Specular Reflection, a song that ended up being a prophetic expression of things to come.
