Genesis - Selling England by the Pound (1973).
Genesis proved that they could rock on Foxtrot but on its follow-up Selling England by the Pound they didn't follow this route, they returned to the English eccentricity of their first records, which wasn't so much a retreat as a consolidation of powers. For even if this eight-track album has no one song that hits as hard as "Watcher of the Skies," Genesis hasn't sacrificed the newfound immediacy of Foxtrot: they've married it to their eccentricity, finding ways to infuse it into the delicate whimsy that's been their calling card since the beginning
Aisle of Plenty Lyrics. About Selling England by the Pound. The penultimate record of the Peter Gabriel-led lineup is widely considered a high watermark in the Genesis canon.

Selling England by the Pound is the fifth studio album from the English progressive rock band Genesis, released in October 1973 on Charisma Records. It reached No. 3 in the UK and No. 70 in the . A single from the album, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe), was released in February 1974 and became the band’s first top 30 hit in the UK. The album was recorded in August 1973 following the tour supporting the previous album, Foxtrot (1972)
This album has had the biggest influence on me musically in my life. There's not a single second of boredom throughout this album. I can't count how many times I've listened to it without ever getting burnt out of it. As I changed, this album has changed the way I see music and if I had never found out about this LP, I would not be the person I am today. This has opened me to prog rock, playing instruments, experimental music and indirectly opened me to a lot more genres. I daresay: this album. In each track, Genesis create a different story of England, and, yet, they all intertwine. Be it the humour of Epping Forest, the anger and driving force of the opener, the broad, majestic and sweeping Firth of Fifth, or the supremely delicate and mystical Cinema Show, Genesis convey a great spectrum of emotions all encircling around their proud, foolish, beautiful, sprawling, divided home country.
