Give’ Em Enough Rope, their second album (The Clash, released in the . in 1977, remains unissued here, as do several remarkable singles that appear on neither LP), is a rocker’s assault on the Real World in the grand tradition of Beggar’s Banquet, Let It Bleed and Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols
Although Give ‘Em Enough Rope doesn’t pack quite the punch or purpose of the band’s debut, Safe European Home, Tommy Gun, and Drug-Stabbing Time show a growing synergy in the songwriting partnership between Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The rollicking R&B of Julie’s Been Working For the Drug Squad presages the stylistic breakthrough of London Calling, while English Civil War offers the band’s punk audience one last furious anthem. Produced by Blue Oyster Cult guru Sandy Pearlman, the Clash’s sophomore album was a conscious attempt to give the band a more commercial sound. Although Give ‘Em Enough Rope doesn’t pack quite the punch or purpose of the band’s debut, Safe European Home, Tommy Gun, and Drug-Stabbing Time show a growing synergy in the songwriting partnership between Joe Strummer and Mick Jones.
Album Give ’Em Enough Rope. Safe European Home Lyrics. Singer Joe Strummer and guitarist Mick Jones were sent to Jamaica for two weeks in December 1977 to write songs for their upcoming second album, which would become Give ‘Em Enough Rope. Joe and Mick in Jamaica. Safe European Home is something of a song about growing up, being shocked into reality, and admitting it. The first LP to feature drummer Topper Headon, this record was produced by Blue Oyster Cult's mentor Sandy Pearlman. Voted 'Album of the Year' by Sounds (UK), Rolling Stone (US) and Time Magazine (US) the record explores themes of Third World conflict, European terrorism and London inner-city desolation.

The second "Safe European Home" hits your speakers – the power is formidable. Like most I grew up with the British-pressed CBS Records Vinyl LP and it was good without ever being great in terms of kick-ass punch. No such problem here.
