Danny Kaye (born David Daniel Kaminsky; January 18, 1911 – March 3, 1987) was an American actor, singer, dancer, comedian, and musician. Kaye starred in 17 movies, notably Wonder Man (1945), The Kid from Brooklyn (1946), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), The Inspector General (1949), Hans Christian Andersen (1952), White Christmas (1954), and The Court Jester (1956). He was the first ambassador-at-large of UNICEF in 1954 and received the French Legion of Honor in 1986 for his years of work with the organization. David Daniel Kaminsky was born to Ukrainian Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn on January 18, 1911 (though he would later say 1913).

According to album liner notes, the songs and interviews on both sides of the record are from a tape made when Danny Kaye was cited for his UNICEF work at the 1966 Annual Meeting of the Department of Elementary School Principals, NEA. This record is "Presented by Scott, Foresman and Company: Publishers of Health for All, The New Basic Health and Safety Program" and packaging specifies that "This record may be used only in schools."

The opening songs by the United Nations International School Children's Chorus on side two are Sakura and Krakowiaczek Jeden. Liner notes include lyrics and translations for these two songs and specifies that they are two of eight songs available on a 7-inch 33 ⅓ RPM record available from the U.S. Committee for UNICEF.
