This Is Our Music is the third and final studio album by American indie rock band Galaxie 500, released in 1990 on Rough Trade Records. In 2010, the album was re-issued and peaked at number 18 on the UK Independent Album Breakers Chart. All tracks written by Galaxie 500, except as noted. Galaxie 500. Damon Krukowski – drums, backup vocals. Dean Wareham – guitar, vocals. Naomi Yang – bass guitar, vocals on "Listen, the Snow Is Falling". Additional personnel.
Galaxie 500 didn't last long. They formed in Boston in 1986, released three albums between 1988 and 1990, got great notices in the press (especially the UK), and then dissolved. Following their breakup, after which lead singer and guitarist Dean Wareham went on to Luna and the rhythm section of Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang formed Magic Hour and Damon and Naomi, Galaxie 500 albums went out of print. Given the relative merits of This Is Our Music, a fine album that sometimes sounds sleepy instead of dreamy, the fact that Galaxie 500 called it quits in spring 1991 is no tragedy. Some bands are meant to last for three albums; this was one of them. All involved would go on to do good things, including Kramer, who carried his sonic innovations into Low's early work.
What turned out to be the final Galaxie 500 album was also arguably the band's most accomplished. Not that the earlier records lacked either charm or ability, but right from the charging, chugging start of "Fourth of July," the amazing single and leadoff song from This Is Our Music (even including a cheeky Velvet Underground reference from "Candy Says"), the trio here sounds like they could take on anyone

Galaxie 500’s music was minimalist in all respects †simple drums, winding basslines that followed their own path through the songs, guitars that adopted the mantra “three chords good, two chords better††but somehow manages to inhabit its own territory. is: Today is the pop one, Thurston Moore’s favourite guitar album of 1988, and less a collection of songs than dreamy jingles. There are barely any choruses, but the tracks on this album are the ones most likely to get stuck in your head. €˜Tugboat’ and the stupid-ass anthem ‘King of Spain’ are still stone cold classics, and ‘Oblivious’ pretty much invents Hefner. Though, occasionally, the band’s variations on the chords G, D and C get somewhat dull.
