Telemann: Early Concertos & Sonatas. Pfarrkirche Kiens (Südtirol). Telemann: Early Concertos & Sonatas. CD - Brilliant Classics Georg Philipp Telemann. Ensemble Cordia, Stefano Veggetti. Georg Philipp Telemann.

It was with the sonatas on this album that the cello first sang with its own true voice. Several previous albums on Brilliant Classics have demonstrated the stylish feeling and polished technique of Ensemble Cordia in Baroque and early-Classical-era chamber music. The discography of this north-Italian chamber group also includes Telemann (BC94208), a collection of ‘Passionate Baroque Arias’ (BC94071) and more Platti, an album of cello concertos (BC94722) with the ensemble’s director Stefano Veggetti as soloist: ‘These are all really interesting and worthwhile work. nhanced by the excellent playing of soloist Veggetti, who handles both the lyrical.

Telemann: Early Concertos & Sonatas. Release Date: 18th Apr 2011. The works on this CD represent an unfamiliar aspect of Telemann’s work. They date from early in his career when his was experimenting with the different musical and stylistic influences he was exposed to. It was during his time as Kapellmeister at Eisenach that he commenced his incredible output of sonatas and concertos for diverse groups of instruments. He found initially the modern Italian style too superficial (although Corelli was an early influence), and it was the French style that appealed, so much so that he said his concertos ended up ‘smelling of France’.

Baroque cellist Stefano Veggetti performs with members of the early music band Ensemble Cordia on this Brilliant Classics release of cello concertos by Giovanni Benedetto Platti (. 697-1763). In all, there are five concertos on this recording made in 2011; three of them are appearing on CD for the first time. Born in Italy and initially trained in Venice, Platti's teachers included Albinoni, the Marcello brothers and, in all likelihood, Vivaldi and Lotti
