The Cure released their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in May 1979. Because of the band's inexperience in the studio, Parry and engineer Mike Hedges took control of the recording. The band, particularly Smith, were unhappy with the album; in a 1987 interview, he admitted, "a lot of it was very superficial – I didn't even like it at the time. The Associates toured as support band for the Cure and the Passions on the Future Pastimes Tour of England between November and December-all three bands were on the Fiction Records roster-with the new Cure line-up already performing a number of new songs for the projected second album. In 2011, the band played Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith in their entirety during two shows in Sydney.

During Seventeen Seconds, we honestly felt that we were creating something no one else had done. From this point on, I thought that every album was going to be the last Cure album, so I always tried to make it something that would be kind of a milestone. I feel Seventeen Seconds is one of few albums that genuinely achieved that.

On April 8th, 1980, The Cure released the Mike Hedges co-produced single A Forest from the band’s upcoming sophomore album Seventeen Seconds. A Forest was not initially the title of the song, however, with the original title being recycled for the chilling album track At Night. Watch a televised performance of the song in it’s original form below, from the time of its introduction during the Future Pastimes tour.

The new Cure started the Future Pastimes tour (15 dates in the UK and 12 more in continental Europe). The tour included The Associates, whose line-up now included Michael Dempsey, and The Passions. Life on the tour bus was fun and the soundtrack to Walt Disney's The Jungle Book had been on repeat, so all the bands could now sing along to "The Bear Necessities". In Your House & Seventeen Seconds both appear on the 17 Seconds remaster bonus cd. Apparently the show was filmed but it's unclear if this was a pirate film or not (only including a single camera view). 13 Dec 79 Arnhem, Stockvishal 14 Dec 79 Heerenveen, Posthuis 15 Dec 79 Rotterdam, Eksit 16 Dec 79 Sittard, Don Quichot 17 Dec 79 Paris, Bataclan.

Seventeen Seconds is the second studio album by British alternative rock band the Cure, recorded at Morgan Studio and released on 22 April 1980 by Fiction Records. For Seventeen Seconds, Robert Smith co-produced for the first time with Mike Hedges. After the departure of original bassist Michael Dempsey, Simon Gallup became an official member along with keyboardist Matthieu Hartley. The single "A Forest" was the band's first entry in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart.

Seventeen Seconds (оригинал The Cure). Семнадцать мгновений (перевод Amethyst). Время ускользает, And the light begins to fade. Семнадцать мгновений -. A measure of life.
