Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Müller (7 October 1794 – 30 September 1827) was a German lyric poet, most well known as the author of Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise, the famous Franz Schubert song cycles. Wilhelm Müller was born on 7 October 1794 at Dessau, the son of a tailor. He was educated at the gymnasium of his native town and at the University of Berlin, where he devoted himself to philological and historical studies.

Public Domain No., 5, 7 and 12 revised, and remaining 8 songs arranged for solo piano, 1837–38 ( . 58), after individual songs by Franz Schubert. The music is written for a high voice and piano, but Schubert himself would transpose the songs down so that singers with lower voices could perform them. The work is often sung by male singers, since the lyrics are told from a male point of view, but various women have performed and recorded the song cycle as well. Die Schöne Müllerin Q&A.
